So Far, So Good...

Whew... I've finished Mega Man 2 and am part-way through Mega Man. My gaming skills feel like they're coming back with a vengeance... it's almost like I'd forgotten what it is to really care about a video game. 'Course, I did have a bit of that feeling with Day of Defeat recently, and a few others. I'm definitely feeling the Mega Man rush, at any rate--and it's good. Damned good.

The Mega Man series (well, the first three NES games and maybe Mega Man X for SNES, at any rate) has long been a favorite of mine. In fact, Mega Man 2 was the first game that I really got into, along with the original Dragon Warrior. I still think that MM2 had the coolest assortment of characters and stages. The MM games had some of the best gameplay you could ever find on the NES, maybe even better than the Mario games in some respects. A great game to hone your old-school video game skills, Parappa. I remember a day when I was actually decent at those games, but now they totally kick my ass. I think that I'm suffering from my years of devotion to the RPG medium as well, though my Metal Gear skills aren't too shabby these days, so I do have something keeping me in shape. Are there many "extras" in the PS2 Mega Man collection, or is it pretty much a straight-up port of all the NES games?

MM Collection includes MM 1-8, so thats... 5 NES games, 1 SNES game, and 2 PSX games? I'm not entirely sure. There's also 2 "bonus" MM games that are some kind of strange Japanese arcade games never released before in America. I haven't unlocked them yet, though.

There are an assortment of other odds and ends, like remixed MM music tracks and scanned MM artwork. For the most part, though, it's just a straight port of the original games. Oh, and it's possible to automatically save your progress, which is nice. The old password system still works though.
